Fateh Sagar Lake is the pride of Udaipur. It is the second artificial lake constructed north-west of Udaipur, to the north of Lake Pichola in the 1680s. It is one of the four lakes of the Udaipur city, the other three being, the Lake Pichola, Udai Sagar Lake and Jaisamand Lake. The lake is surrounded by beautiful hilly Aravali region lying in the foothill of Moti Magri extends around 2.4 km in length and 1.6 km in width.
The lake is encircled by twisting road way taking its perimeter through Moti Magri Hill Road, Fateh Sagar drive way, and Rani Road which exhibits mesmerizing view of the lake and surrounding hillocks.
The Lake is decorated with three small islands that add to the beauty of the lake. The largest of these is Nehru Park which covers 4 sq.km of area developed into a park. The garden also comprises of a restaurant where you can enjoy food while prying at blue waters of the lake and the backdrop of the lush green mountains.
The second island is developed as a public park equipped with an astonishing water jet fountain. It covers an area of around 0.06 sq.km or 15 acres surrounded by blue waters of the lake. The park is decorated with blossoming flowers and huge lawn areas.
The third island is 1.2 sq.km in area and this island is reserved for Solar Observatory which is built in 1975. It is said to be one of the best solar observatory and among some unique sites of Asia. The islands are very much accessible by motor boats which are among the most popular rides offered in Udaipur.
The spot also hosts a festival called the Hariyali Amavasya Mela celebrated every year at the lake shore in the month of August/September
How to reach
Udaipur is well connected by its nearby cities with all modes of transportation. The nearest airport is around 24km from city and 2km from City Railway Station. To reach Fateh Sagar Lake, you can hire a taxi in Udaipur in affordable rates from airport or Railway station. One can also enjoy a Tuk-Tuk ride in city to Fateh Sagar.
