Lake Pichhola

Lake Pichhola, an artificial fresh water lake located in the heart of the city is among the most beautiful lakes in Udaipur. The construction of the lake was completed in the year 1362 AD. It presents a captivating view of lush green high hillocks and fresh blue water depicting the backdrops of hills.

It is extended up to 3 miles in length and 2 miles in width and is surrounded by lush greenery but decorated beautifully at some locations with ornamental arch bridges. Lake Pichhola contains four major islands as Jag Niwas, Jag Mandir, Mohan Mandir and Arsi Vilas.

The largest of the island is popularly known as a heritage hotel Lake Palace, which is very famous among travelers. The construction of entire hotel is in white marble with a touch of royal legacy.

The second island is converted to Jag Mandir, a famous holiday destination attached with Lake Palace itself. The island is inhabited with several species of beautiful flowers like jasmine, bougainvillea, palm trees, nasturtiums, verbena, moss rose and yew bushes.

The Pichhola also houses a small island known as Mohan Mandir. This island is like a platform from where the royal family would enjoy the famous Gangaur festival celebration.

The forth island known as Arsi Vilas palace is a tiny island which is a small palace and a storehouse of ammunition. The Maharanas of Udaipur constructed this palace to enjoy the sunset on the lake. It is also a home of variety of birds which includes coots, egrets, terns, cormorants, tufted ducks and kingfishers.

Attractions

The lake also hosts a wonderful boat ride which introduces the travelers with the cultural heritage of Udaipur by riding them towards the islands and nearby gardens, hotels, temples, bathing ghats (chabutaras), havelis located at the bank of the lake.

How to reach

Lake Pichola is only 3 km away from the bus station and railway station and 25 km from the airport. One could reach the lake by hiring a private taxi in Udaipur, getting auto-rickshaws or by Tongas.
